The Silence
A plushie dog forgotten
under the wrinkled duvet of a double bed
A cluttered pile of yesterday's news
discarded and unread
A herd of shoes of all sizes
scattered all over the hallway
Used coffee mugs
swarming the antique tea tray
Touches only bypassing each other
a neglected heart is left to shudder
forgotten lips deprived of wonder
A granite counter top
housing a nest of charger cables
Dried coffee stains
decorate the kitchen table
An abandoned towel
hanging from the bathroom door
Wet paw prints
glimmer on the hardwood floor
Holes the size of words fill the air
glances meeting nowhere
Silence has settled here
